Portal, Under Realm

In the midst of the long-abandoned village, two clusters of giant dark purple crystals erupt from the ground.  They are nested in crunching sandy beds of smaller prisms, punctuated with pinkish blossoms and dark blue fungus.  Runes quaver on the surface of the largest glassy columns of each prominence.  Something seems unusual in the space between them.  You can't quite see what's through the gap.  Upon closer inspection, it's like the space beyond is being twisted and disappearing into a velvety fog.

The bard strums the final note on the lyre, and violet columns of crystal burst from the ground, growing close together, forming an open arch.  Within the arch a portal to... somewhere else forms and whorls.
